Cereal Lesson Plan

A = Analyze Learners
The lesson is designed for a group of 20 high school seniors in a culinary arts classroom.

S = State Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to do the following:
  • students will be able to compare and contrast salt fat and sugar in at least 3 cereals.
  • identify which cereal is the most nutritious and which is the least.
  • Be able to make a basic graph to display the collected data.

S = Select Methods, Media, and Materials
Method
 The students will work in groups of 4 to collect the data and put them into a basic graph. They will then present their graph to the class.
Media
I will show them this video of The 5 worst kid cereals to gain their interest while informing them about some of the bad cereals out there.

Materials
The matierals needed will be 3 boxes of cereal for each group of students, writing materials to collect the data, and a poster board to present their findings.

U = Utelize Media and Materials
The lesson will begin with me presenting the video shown above to gain the attention of the high school seniors. Once I spark some interest, I will then inform the students that they will be getting into group of 4 to compare cereal data themselves. I will pass out 3 boxes of cereals and a poster board to each group of students and tell them to find the salt, fat, and sugar within each box of cereal. Once the students have collected the data, they will then have to utelize their poster board by constructing a graph that displays their data.

R = Require Learner Participation
Students will all be required to participate in some way in this class activity. Among their groups, students will work together to collect the data from different cereals and construct their graph.

E = Evaluate and Revise
Students will be graded on the following:
40% for collecting accurate data.
40% for constructing a nice graph
20% for presenting it well.

Revision will be made accordingly.
